Add Text to Image
Add text to an image online with several draggable text layers, fonts, outline, shadow and alignment, then download it as PNG or JPG. No upload needed.
Drag a text to move it. Click the image, then use the arrow keys to nudge the selected text (Shift for bigger steps).
How to add text to an image
- Drop an image on the drop zone, or click it to choose one. A first text layer with Your text appears near the bottom.
- Type your words in Text. Press Enter for a new line inside the same layer.
- Drag the text on the picture to place it. You can also click the picture and nudge the selected text with the arrow keys (hold Shift for bigger steps). Center horizontally puts it back in the middle.
- Style the layer: Font, Size (px), Color, Bold, Italic and Alignment (Left, Center or Right for multi-line text).
- For readability, set an Outline (px) with its Outline color, and tick Shadow with a Shadow color.
- Click Add text for another layer. Choose which layer to edit in Text layer, or click a text on the picture to select it. Delete layer removes the selected one.
- Choose the Format (PNG or JPG, with a Quality setting for JPG) and click Download image.
Layers, sizes and positions
Each text layer is independent: its own words, font, colors and effects. Layers are drawn in order, so the last one added sits on top when they overlap, and clicking where two layers overlap selects the top one.
The Size (px) is the font size in pixels of the full-size image, not of the preview on your screen. A new layer starts at about 8 % of the image’s shorter side, which reads well on most photos: roughly 240 px on a 4000 × 3000 photo, 86 px on a 1080 × 1080 post. The position is stored as a share of the width and height, so the text lands in the same spot in the final file as in the preview, whatever the zoom. If you load another picture, your layers are kept and rescaled to it.
The downloaded image has exactly the same dimensions as the original. Only the picture’s pixels and your text are saved: EXIF metadata such as the camera model or the GPS location is not copied, although the orientation of phone photos is applied first.
Making text readable on any photo
- A white text with a black outline is the classic combination: it stands out on both bright skies and dark shadows. An outline of 5–8 % of the size works well.
- A soft Shadow lifts the text off busy backgrounds without the comic look of a thick outline.
- Leave some space from the edges: social networks often crop or cover the borders of an image with buttons.
- Use Bold for short captions and titles, regular weight for longer sentences.
Fonts available
The Font list contains Liberation Sans, a free font shipped with this tool and served from the same site, so it looks identical on every device, and common system fonts: System UI, Arial / Helvetica, Impact, Arial Black, Verdana, Trebuchet MS, Georgia, Times New Roman, Courier New, Comic Sans MS and Brush Script. A system font is used only if it’s installed on your computer or phone; otherwise the closest available font takes its place. No font is fetched from an external service.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write text on a photo without an app?
Open this page, drop your photo, type your text, drag it into place and click Download image. Everything runs in your browser.
Can I add several texts to the same image?
Yes. Click Add text as many times as you need; each layer has its own text, font, color, outline and shadow.
How do I put text on several lines?
Press Enter inside Text. The lines follow the Alignment you choose: Left, Center or Right.
Which format should I choose?
PNG keeps the text perfectly sharp and preserves transparency, which suits screenshots and graphics. JPG gives much smaller files for photos; keep the Quality high (85 or more) to avoid blurry edges around the letters.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is opened, edited and saved in your browser and never leaves your device.
