How to rotate or flip an image

    1. Drop one or more images on the drop zone, or click it to choose them. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP work, as does any other format your browser can display.
    2. Under Rotate, click 90° left, 90° right or 180°. Each click adds to the current angle, so two clicks on 90° right turn the picture upside down.
    3. For a free angle, type a value in Angle (°, clockwise) or drag the slider. Negative values turn the picture counter-clockwise. Decimals are allowed, for example 1.5° to straighten a horizon.
    4. Under Mirror, tick Flip horizontally (left and right swapped, like a mirror) or Flip vertically (upside-down reflection). You can combine them with a rotation. Reset returns to the original orientation.
    5. With a free angle, choose the Corners background: Transparent or a Color.
    6. Choose the Output format and, for JPG and WebP, the Quality. The Preview of the first image updates as you change the settings.
    7. Click Rotate images. The same rotation and mirror are applied to every file in the list. Download each result with its own Download button, or all of them with Download all.

Right angles, free angles and mirroring

A rotation by 90°, 180° or 270° is lossless in geometry: every pixel moves to a new position without being recalculated, and the width and height are simply swapped for 90° steps. A 3000 × 4000 portrait becomes a 4000 × 3000 landscape.

A free angle is different. The picture is turned inside a larger canvas so that no corner is cut off. The new size is width × |cos θ| + height × |sin θ| by width × |sin θ| + height × |cos θ|. At 45°, a 1000 × 500 image needs a canvas of about 1061 × 1061 pixels. The four empty triangles in the corners are filled with the background you choose. Pixels are interpolated at free angles, so very fine details become slightly softer; crop the result afterwards if you want to remove the corners.

Mirroring is not the same as rotating. Flip horizontally swaps left and right: text becomes unreadable, as in a mirror. It’s what you need to fix a selfie taken with a front camera, or to make a subject face the other way in a layout. Flip vertically gives a reflection, like on the surface of water. Flipping both ways gives the same result as a 180° rotation.

    Formats, transparency and quality

Same as original keeps JPG as JPG, PNG as PNG and WebP as WebP; other formats (GIF, BMP…) are saved as PNG. JPG has no transparency: when you keep the corners Transparent and save as JPG, they are filled with white. Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparent corners, for example to place a tilted photo on a web page.

The orientation stored in the EXIF data of phone photos is applied before rotating, so what you see in the preview is what you get. The new file doesn’t contain the original metadata, such as the camera model or the GPS position.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I rotate a photo that appears sideways?

Drop it in, click 90° right or 90° left until the preview is upright, then click Rotate images and download the result.

    Does rotating reduce image quality?

Right-angle rotations and mirroring move pixels without changing them. Saving as JPG or WebP re-compresses the picture, which can lose a little detail; choose PNG or a high Quality to avoid that. Free angles also interpolate pixels.

How do I straighten a crooked horizon?

Enter a small angle such as 1.5 or -2 in Angle (°, clockwise) and watch the preview. Then crop the picture to remove the corners.

Can I rotate several images at once?

Yes. Add as many images as you like: the same settings are applied to all of them when you click Rotate images.

    Are my photos uploaded?

No. The images are decoded, rotated and encoded in your browser, and they never leave your device.
