Markdown to Slides

Write slides in Markdown, separated by --- lines. Preview them, present full screen, download a standalone HTML file or save them as a PDF.

Separate slides with a line containing only three dashes (---). Headings, lists, tables, code, links and embedded images are supported.

How to make slides from Markdown

  1. Type or paste your Markdown in the Markdown box. A short example deck is there to start from.
  2. Separate slides with a line that contains only three dashes: ---. Everything between two such lines becomes one slide.
  3. Check the result in the preview. Move between slides with the ← and → buttons, or click the preview and use the arrow keys.
  4. Pick a Theme: Light, Dark, Sepia or Bold blue.
  5. Click Present full screen to give your talk. Use the arrow keys, Page Up/Page Down or the space bar to move, click the right or left part of the slide, and press Escape to leave.
  6. To keep or share the deck, click Download HTML for a single file that opens in any browser, or Print / Save as PDF to print it or save it as a PDF, one slide per page.

Markdown you can use on a slide

Each slide supports the usual Markdown (GitHub flavour):

  • headings: # Title, ## Subtitle, ### Section;
  • bold, italic, inline code and ~~strikethrough~~;
  • bulleted and numbered lists, task lists (- [x] done);
  • tables with | column | column | rows;
  • fenced code blocks with three backticks;
  • quotes starting with >;
  • links and images.

A --- line inside a code block doesn’t start a new slide, so you can show YAML front matter or separators in code. A line with more dashes (-----) also works as a separator.

Text is sized from the height of the slide, so it looks the same in the preview, full screen, in the HTML file and on paper. Keep slides short: about six bullet points or a small table fit comfortably. Extra content is cut off at the bottom rather than shrunk.

Images

For security, this page only shows images embedded in the Markdown as data: URLs. Images linked from the web (![logo](https://…)) are hidden in the preview and in the PDF printed from it, and the tool tells you how many. They are kept in the downloaded HTML file, which loads them when it is opened with an internet connection.

The downloaded HTML file

Download HTML creates one self-contained file: the slides, the theme styles and a few lines of navigation code, with no external dependency. Open it in a browser, press F for full screen, and use the arrow keys, a click or a swipe to move. Adding #3 to the address opens slide 3. Printing that file also gives one slide per page.

Saving as a PDF

Print / Save as PDF opens your browser’s print dialog with every slide on its own 16:9 landscape page. Choose “Save as PDF” as the printer. Turn on “Background graphics” if the dark or blue themes print on white.

Privacy

Your Markdown is converted in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the files are created on your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I start a new slide?

Put a line containing only --- between the two slides, ideally with a blank line before and after it.

Can I present without an internet connection?

Yes. Download the HTML file: it contains everything it needs and works offline.

Why don't my images appear in the preview?

Images from web addresses are blocked on this page for security. They still appear in the downloaded HTML file. To see them everywhere, embed them as data URLs.

How do I get a PDF of my slides?

Click Print / Save as PDF, then choose “Save as PDF” as the destination in the print dialog. Each slide becomes one landscape page.

Does it support speaker notes or animations?

No. Each slide shows its Markdown content as it is, which keeps decks simple and easy to share.
